The Kells design has been derived from patterns inscribed in the book of Kells, written and decorated by the monks of Iona in the 8th and 9th century AD and taken for safe keeping to Ireland where it is now kept at Trinity College, Dublin. It is a traditional Celtic movement of line to signify the never ending circle of life.
