All about Sgian Dubhs
Sgian Dubh is Gaelic for black (“dubh”) dagger (“sgian”).
Invariably, the handle was carved from black bog oak, and perhaps more subtly, the word “black” implies “secret” or “covert” as in “blackmail” or “blackmarket”.
It is historically a weapon of last resort and was concealed, only to be exhibited in the presence of a host out of courtesy, usually in the sock where it would be seen.
It is available from us in Celtic Designs, Traditional Regimental patterns or as Safety versions, which are toughened mouldings with no blade. They are also available as “Stag Knives”.
All are supplied gift boxed except for the safety versions.
